DAY 1

31. It's another year that I get to celebrate LIFE. It is true, the older you get the more
comfortable and confident you become as a person. Beyonce is in her late 30s and is still killing sh--!. For my 31st, the babe spoiled me with a weekend getaway to NOLA. I honestly decided to go one day before the weekend. Room booked, itinerary saved to our phones, restaurants, etc.

Saturday morning came and we packed our things and headed out for a 5 hour drive along the gulf coast. After about  3 stops /delays we finally touched down in Nola. There is just a magic that resonates over this city. I just can’t explain it. I couldn't help but feel inspired by the city's French quarters, vibrant city lights and color, and the warm southern charm. Is it just me or does everyone in Nola seem sooo nice and helpful?!

We checked into our hotel which by the way had the most amazing view of the city and our hotels roof top. The roof top had the most divine pool area and outdoor lounge. It was a very “Instagrammable” view.

I didn’t want to waste anytime and began doing my hair and make up. After a hour, we were hitting Bourban Street . There were so many mixtures of people walking up and down this picturesque street. Bright light city I should say. New Orleans is well known for their frozen daiquiri and I was not leaving until I got my long "bong looking" frozen daiquiri! For $14, I was slurping down Everlast goodness in happiness walking the streets. Looking back now, I wish I got a fish bowl too just as a souvenir. But there's next time! I did have a very weird somewhat uncomfortable situation  with one of the bartenders .

There’s so much that goes on . Walking down the street you have bars/restaurant workers standing outside. They try to get you to come in to dine or drink. One bar hostess walked out of the bar towards us with a tube in her hand. She tried to get me to try their locally famous shot. I politely declined. She then grabbed me by my hand literally pulling me inside the bar and proceeded to try to get me to drink this tube. I again say "No thank you." She then took the tube shot and put it in her mouth and positioned her mouth to pour it in mines. Ummmm I was TOTALLY UNCOMFORTABLE. Probably one of the most uncomfortable experiences I've had in quite a while. Once I backed away, she proceeded to try to pour it down my babes mouth. Ummm lets just say bae was NOTTTT having itttttt. Lmao. (inserts monkey covered eyes emoji). The bar tender finally got the hint and left us alone. So just a tip: Beware of aggressive bar tenders!

We went in the little shops that had such unique clothing and characteristics. While strolling the city , I saw horses with carriages, people in the streets laughing and just having a great time! In all honestly, I think EVERYONE I encountered was LITTTT lol. And then I heard the MUSIC. I will never forget the music and watching teens play their heart out in the middle of the street with their trombones, drums, and tuba. I felt like I was in a trance watching them in amazement. It seemed like every where I turned there was music, soulful music. We got the chance to pop our heads in a bar and catch a live concert.

At this point, we were starving. We dined at Felix Seafood Bar. I absolutely love their shrimp po boy sandwich. It has the right Cajun kick to it. Full stomachs ended my first night with such content. I don't know if it was the daiquiri or all day travelling but I was out for the count when we got back to the hotel.

                                                    Day 2

                          Breakfast for champions!

There was such a fine dining atmosphere downstairs of our hotel. You had tables with fine glassware and utensils and people dressed up eating their breakfast while I came in (not aware of the dress code) in jogger pants and my Nike inspired slides. I ordered the mini waffles served with berries and whip cream. They were the thickest and fulfilling waffles I've ever had.

After breakfast we gathered our things and headed to Magazine Street. I scored the cutest unique handbag at one of the boutiques. Can't wait until you guys see it! I wanted to visit all the local shops and snap some pictures for the gram of course. If there’s one thing I’ve learned about New Orleans is there is ALWAYS something to do! No matter what time of day it is.

Exploring the city during the day time compared to the night was both beautiful and somewhat eye opening. This beautiful city enriched with culture and deep rooted history that I explored the night before had a different charm on me during the day. I was able to clearly see the people on the streets holding signs that expressed they were homeless and needed money. To see a young girl holding a sign in the middle of the street just did something to me.

As we kept riding through the city, I saw more and more tents set up and homeless people. Coming from a small town, homelessness isn’t something I saw on a day to day basis. You may see someone standing in front of Walmart holding a sign but not an entire block of people who slept under bridges, on benches, side of roads, etc. It brought sooo much sadness to my heart. I'm currently doing researching on charities. If you know any, please message me! I know this is the best time to end a blog on a down note but part 2 of the trip ended with a lighter tone! +
